LogicStream Health, announced today that Carilion Clinic will implement its LogicStream Platform to reduce catheter-associated urinary tract infections (CAUTI) and venous thromboembolism (VTE) using clinical process measurement solutions. Carilion’s decision to implement the platform to monitor and measure all the clinical decision support (CDS) components that enable system-wide care standardization was influenced by its demonstrated impact on CAUTI and VTE rates at other LogicStream clients.
“We have a strategic initiative underway to eliminate CAUTI and VTE. LogicStream provides us with an opportunity to accelerate our efforts,” said Stephen Morgan, M.D., Senior Vice President and Chief Medical Information Officer at Carilion Clinic. “These solutions will help us analyze our clinical processes and focus on best practices. We are excited about the ways LogicStream can help us improve outcomes for our patients.”
LogicStream’s Clinical Process Measurement solutions help reduce CAUTI and VTE rates by providing the Carilion team with greater visibility of process data across the organization. By determining how individual providers, departments and hospitals are treating patients, unnecessary variation in care can be reduced. Measuring the effectiveness of order sets, alerts, documentation templates and other CDS components allows for standardized processes to be implemented to improve care quality and reduce costs related to hospital-acquired conditions.
“LogicStream will help us improve patient care in a number of areas, including CAUTI and VTE,” said Trish Gallagher, Senior Director for Nursing Quality and Clinical Informatics at Carilion. “We expect these solutions will help us improve outcomes for our patients by identifying ways we can standardize care and reduce drug costs. We know CAUTI and VTE are just the start of the work we can do with LogicStream, and we are excited to start using LogicStream at Carilion.”
Unlike products that simply facilitate the reporting of health or quality outcomes, LogicStream supports strategic management and analysis of care delivery – something not offered by any other solution set. Measurement of clinical processes within care delivery can be leveraged to improve outcomes, patient and provider satisfaction and financial performance. LogicStream delivers specific solutions targeted at issues such as hospital acquired conditions, appropriate use of medications and tests and regulatory compliance.
“We continue to expand our footprint in the healthcare market. Adding Carilion to our expanding client roster is another example of the demonstrated value we can bring to health systems of all sizes,” said Patrick Yoder, LogicStream Co-founder and CEO. “By delivering visibility into clinical quality processes across the enterprise, Carilion will be able to standardize care delivery while reducing the instances of CAUTI and VTE. They can then apply those learnings to other hospital-acquired conditions, as well as content management and process measurement initiatives.”
