CommonWell Health Alliance membership continues to expand across the care continuum

CommonWell Health Alliance today announced seven new members are joining its effort to enhance nationwide health data exchange regardless of health IT vendor, geography or setting of care. These new members augment the reach of CommonWell Services in the ambulatory market, increase its membership representation for provider-engagement, imaging and EMS solutions, as well as expand into the direct-to-consumer arena.

eClinicalWorks joins CommonWell as a Contributor Member and commits to offering CommonWell services to its customers. eClinicalWorks is a cloud-based electronic health record (EHR) company offering solutions for private practices, hospitals, population health, revenue cycle management and patient engagement. It holds the highest market share among all cloud-based EHR vendors, with more than 115,000 providers using its solutions today.

lifeIMAGE, an interoperable medical image sharing network; MediPortal, a patient engagement solutions company; and Modernizing Medicine, creator of a specialty-specific suite of products and services to transform the clinical, financial and operational aspects of practices, also join CommonWell as Contributor Members. HIMSS, a global, cause-based, not-for-profit organization focused on better health through information technology; ImageTrend, a web-based emergency response, hospital and integrated healthcare software provider; and Mana Health, a cloud Platform-as-a-Service that unifies patient data from EHRs, apps and devices, join as General Members.

“We’re thrilled to welcome eClinicalWorks, HIMSS, ImageTrend, lifeIMAGE, Mana Health, MediPortal and Modernizing Medicine to our growing organization,” said Jitin Asnaani, Executive Director of CommonWell Health Alliance. “The diversity in our membership is representative of our commitment to reach the full continuum of care and to help ensure pertinent patient information is available to patients and caregivers regardless of where care occurred.”

  • eClinicalWorks holds a significant share of the ambulatory EHR market and has demonstrated a proven commitment to interoperability. The organization plans to deploy CommonWell services with interested clients.

“Connecting medical providers and patients is paramount to elevating health care delivery,” said Tushar Malhotra, integration lead for eClinicalWorks. “The work by CommonWell and its members helps move the industry forward, and we are pleased to officially become a member, joining the effort to make nationwide interoperability ubiquitous. Our immediate next steps include making the cross-vendor interoperability services available to the providers using our solutions.”

  • With more than 150,000 users and 1.5 billion exams exchanged, lifeIMAGE is the nation’s largest and most utilized network for sharing medical imaging information. Its services allow hospitals, physicians and patients to securely connect and exchange exams, anywhere, reducing unnecessary testing, preventing excessive radiation exposure, and promoting faster, safer, higher-quality care.

“Having provider access to patients’ imaging records regardless of where exams were ordered, performed or stored is crucial to ensure the best patient care possible,” said Matthew A. Michela, CEO and President of lifeIMAGE. “As the leading image exchange network in the United States, we believe we have an obligation to advance interoperability and look forward to working with CommonWell and its members to accelerate that outcome.”

  • MediPortal is a patient engagement solutions company offering a customized personal health record where consumers can track fitness, nutrition and medical data all in one place. Its dedication to helping patients take more control of their health aligns with the vision and mission of CommonWell.

“We are excited to become a member of CommonWell given our focus on empowering patients to take control of their health care,” said Anand Prabhu, CEO and Founder of MediPortal. “We, too, believe that providers and the people they serve deserve to have access to health data no matter where care occurs.”

  • Modernizing Medicine develops specialty-specific, data-driven and cloud-based electronic health records (EHR), practice management (PM) and revenue cycle management (RCM) systems to transform the clinical, financial and operational aspects of physician practices, ambulatory surgery centers and hospitals.

“Our membership with CommonWell symbolizes our commitment to interoperability, which complements our mission to transform how health care is created, consumed and utilized to increase efficiency and improve outcomes,” said Daniel Cane, CEO and Co-Founder of Modernizing Medicine. “CommonWell and its real-world interoperability services that enable providers to work seamlessly within their existing workflow can bring tangible value to the providers we serve.”

  • HIMSS is a global, cause-based, not-for-profit organization focused on better health through information technology. HIMSS’s leadership experience in the health IT field will enable it to bring unique and valuable expertise as a General Member of CommonWell.
  • ImageTrend develops web-based software solutions for emergency services, hospitals and integrated health care. Its technology integrates on an enterprise level with national registries including NEMSIS (National Emergency Medical Services Information System), NTDB (National Trauma Data Bank), NFIRS (National Fire Incident Reporting System) and CARES (Cardiac Arrest Registry to Enhance Survival), giving CommonWell an opportunity to provide value to additional critical niche markets.
  • Mana Health, a leader in patient portal technology, aims to give patients an easy way to see their health data in order to better connect patients and care providers. It plans to employ cross-vendor interoperability to accelerate its commitment to EHR data integration and the shift toward value-based care.

With the addition of these members, CommonWell Health Alliance now has 40 members and represents 72 percent of the acute care EHR market and 34 percent of the ambulatory care EHR market, as well as market leaders and technology innovators supporting care settings such as post-acute care, imaging, perinatal, laboratory, retail pharmacy, oncology, population health, emergency services and more.
